When : 5:30-8:30 pm
Summer Crush is over the top excited to announce a night of Beach Boys music with original and current part-time Beach Boy member and RIAA Platinum Record Award Winner; DAVID MARKS… backed by the famous Surf City All Star Band! David Marks grew up across the street from the famous Beach Boy (Wilson) family, singing and playing with Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson. He and Carl studied and played guitar together and developed their own electric guitar style, which caught the attention of budding composer Brian Wilson. David and Carl’s new rock ‘n’ roll guitar sound blended with Brian’s complex harmonies to create that original and famous signature sound that became The Beach Boys!
At age 13, Marks was an official Beach Boy and a signatory on the band’s recording contract with Capitol Records, as well as, performed at concerts, appeared on national television shows, and played guitar and sang on the band’s first four iconic albums; Surfin' Safari, Surfin' U.S.A., Surfer Girl, and Little Deuce Coupe.
Due to the Beach Boys father/manager Murray Wilson, Marks quit the band in 1964, but stayed very close friends with the Wilson brothers, returning again to be a Beach Boy on numerous occasions. David rejoined them for a short time in 1971, filled in for the ailing Carl Wilson in the late 90’s and from 2012 through today, he recorded on Beach Boys and Brian Wilson’s albums, and was a member of the Beach Boys famous 50th anniversary tour. While away from the Beach Boys, Marks fronted his own band of note; David Marks and the Marksmen, became a classically trained Jazz guitarist and respected studio musician, as well as authored his autobiography The Lost Beach Boy in 2007. In 2013 Marks toured with Jeff Beck, Al Jardine and Brian Wilson, even appearing on the Jimmy Fallon Show. Today David continues as a part-time member of the Beach Boys and tours with Beach Boy Al Jardine and the famous Surf City All Star band, which is made up of seasoned musicians all who have recorded, toured and performed extensively with the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean, as well as other notables such as; Frank Zappa, the Eagle’s Timothy B. Schmit, America, Chuck Berry, The Drifters, The Coasters, The Temptations, The Turtles and many more. This very rare East Coast appearance by Marks includes some personal stories of Marks time with the Beach Boys and is an intimate close up and personal Beach Boy experience. This concert is a must see for the true Beach Boy fans, especially if they think they have seen all the Beach Boys but have yet to see original Beach Boy: David Marks!
